To calculate concrete volume, multiply length by width by thickness in metres. A 6m by 3m driveway at 100mm thick needs 1.8 cubic metres, and you order about 10 percent more to allow for an uneven base and spillage.
What the number does not include
The calculator prices the slab. These are the items that move a real quote, and the reason a fixed price should follow an inspection.
Excavation and spoil
Digging out, and carting away what comes out. Rock changes this dramatically.
Base preparation
Bringing in and compacting road base in layers, which is where cheap quotes take their money out.
Reinforcement
Mesh or bar, chaired to the cover an engineer specified rather than dropped on the ground.
Formwork
Setting up and stripping the edge forms, then clearing the material off site.
Pumping and access
Where a truck cannot reach the pour, a pump or a long barrow run is real cost.
