Bollards and wheel stops are cheap until they are missing. What they protect is not: columns, doors, plant, racking, and the people working near all of it.
Small hardware, real engineering
A bollard is only as strong as its footing. Core drilled and grouted, concreted into a footing, or base plated and anchored are three different installations with very different impact performance. Which one is right depends on what is likely to hit it and what is underneath.
A base plated bollard on a thin slab will take the slab with it, which is a worse outcome than having no bollard there at all. We install fixed and removable bollards, wheel stops and parking blocks, structural column guards and wraps, warehouse rack end protection and upright guards, door and roller shutter protection, and guards for plant and equipment.
Protecting racking and columns
In a busy warehouse the cost of protection is very small against the cost of what it protects. A damaged rack upright can compromise a whole run of racking and should not be reloaded until it has been assessed. A struck structural column is an engineering problem and possibly an evacuation.
Column guards and rack protection are among the cheapest risk reductions available in a distribution facility, and they are routinely the last thing anybody budgets for.
